2017 Best Practices Honorees Reflect on their Experience

Best Practices 2018

Nominations have closed for the 2018 Best Practices program and we anxiously await the announcement of the winners. As we look back at 2017, we are reminded what a meaningful experience this program can be – both for honorees themselves and for the profession at large. As we look ahead to 2018, we also took some time to look back at 2017 with some of our current honorees. Here’s what they had to say when asked what this program has meant to them.

Brent Fry, OD Premier Eyecare Knoxville, TN

It was a real honor to be chosen as one of CooperVision's Best Practices this year.  The experience of meeting the other Best Practices doctors and the staff of CooperVision who are directly involved with this program has been phenomenal.  The trip to Pleasanton, CA was a true "red carpet" experience in which I made good friends and memories with everyone involved.  The recognition from CooperVision as a Best Practice has provided me with valuable information, resources, and relationships that I will cherish for years.  I look forward to being a part of this program as an alumnus and can't wait to see what CooperVision has planned for the future.

Will Tantum, OD Blount County Eye Center Maryville, TN

Being a part of BP over the past year has allowed me to build a handful of really meaningful relationships with amazing people in our industry. Both fellow BP honorees as well as industry leaders met along the way at BP events, I've been able to connect with some incredible folks who have already helped me to improve my practice. Simply being named a BP probably doesn't mean much if it's just a plaque you place on your wall. But embracing the opportunity that BP presents to learn from the best is what has made it worth my efforts and time.

Gina Wesley, OD, MS, FAAO Complete Eye Care of Medina Medina, MN

It was such an honor to be a Best Practices recipient, but the best part was meeting all the other honorees and hearing all about their practices and what they do in their communities. Truly inspiring, and encourages me to keep on pursuing greater things for my practice and profession.

Shauna Thornhill, OD Amarillo Vision Specialists Amarillo, TX

Being a 2017 Best Practices honoree has been an exhilarating experience. I have met and made friends with some truly innovative pioneers in the field of optometry. My experience has strengthened my desire to make my practice one that impacts the lives of the people in my community.

Katherine Schuetz, ODLittle Eyes Carmel, IN

It was such an honor and encouragement to be chosen as a BP honoree.  Our little office that does unique things felt so special and appreciated.  It meant so much to our entire staff that in the optical world, we really matter!  Thank you for the wonderful experience.

Stephanie L. Woo, O.D., F.A.A.O., F.S.L.S. Havasu Eye Center Lake Havasu, AZ

Being nominated as a Best Practice has meant so much to us this year.  It has caused us to become better leaders in the optometry community and offer even more innovative products and services to our patients. It's taken our care to the next level, and we are so proud to be a Best Practice! We will continue to strive to provide gold standard care to our patients.

Jason Ortman, O.D. Castle Pines Eye CareCastle Pines, CO

The Best Practices Program provided a great opportunity to collaborate and learn from other successful doctors giving our practice the tools to innovate in an ever-changing business climate.  The perspective and energy from my fellow honorees is truly inspiring.  I would highly recommend that any optometrist has set their practice apart from others to apply for this program.

The 2018 Best Practices honorees will be announced in early 2018.
